German Maritime Museum

The German Maritime Museum (DSM)/Leibniz Institute for Maritime History in Bremerhaven has set itself the task of researching the changing relationship between man and the sea and bringing it to life in exhibitions. The centrepiece of the family and research museum is the cog from 1380. The permanent exhibition provides insights into the construction, the Hanseatic League and the cult surrounding the more than 600-year-old merchant ship, which is considered the best-preserved ship of the Middle Ages. In the museum harbour, guests may board the deep-sea salvage tug SEEFALKE, the whaler RAU XI or the harbour tug STIER, among others.

The design of the fairways reflects the philosophy: All courses follow the principle of strategic golf design. This means that there are both aggressive and defensive playing options on each course.

If the player chooses the aggressive variant, he is rewarded if he makes a good shot, but there is the threat of losing one or two strokes if the shot is not optimally successful. If the player chooses the defensive variant, the way to the hole is usually longer but involves less risk.

This basic principle was implemented in that all greens have an obstacle in front of one half of the green, namely a water obstacle or a bunker, while the other half of the green is open. Depending on the flag position, this results in many alternative game variations.

It is not only the strategic design that makes the fairways so interesting, but also the high quality of the green complexes. The greens show a great variety in terms of their shape and their ondulations and are slightly elevated compared to the terrain. Exaggerated undulations or plateaus were deliberately avoided. Instead, the greens have rather moderate, but thereby not easy to read, ondulations.

All in all, the varied, strategic and high-quality design of the fairways means that the courses are always a new challenge for players of all levels.

Boredom cannot arise on these courses, rather all players have a lot of fun again and again.
