Exploring
the eventful relationship between man and the sea and allowing visitors to
experience it through exhibits – this is what the German Maritime Museum /
Leibniz Institute for Maritime History set out to do in Bremerhaven. The heart
of the family and research museum is the cog from 1380. This permanent exhibit
offers insight into the construction, the Hanseatic League and the cult
surrounding the 600-year-old merchant vessel, considered to be the best preserved
ship from the Middle Ages. Some of the ships that guests can board in the
museum harbor include the high seas rescue tug SEEFALKE, the whaler RAU XI and
the harbor tub STIER.
